Tour of Maynard H. Jackson International Terminal, Atlanta Airport, March 14, 2012

Through a Twitter contest, I was invited to join a tour of the new International terminal, due to open on May 16.

We were a group of around 25 people ranging from enthusiasts through business analysts and bloggers to 'ordinary' frequent fliers.  Airlineguy.com with the black shirt with the text.

We met up in the parking garage and was taken around the building for about an hour and a half.  Unfortunatly we weren't allowed airside. The terminal is still a construction area and we had to wear reflective vests and hardhats to be allowed to enter the area. No Starbucks or Hudson News yet.

This is the check in area. Delta and partners has most of the counters. Lots of natural lights are being used and the area appears spacious.

View towards the Screening area.

They are just now starting to install the screening equipment.

The central concourse with escalators to the train station straight ahead.  The F Concourse is connected to Concourse E through a walkway and extension of the existing train line.

Lots of light and green areas.

Departure monitors are already active. The flights are, however, departing from Concourse E.

View of the Concourse. Still a  lot to be done.

Large seating areas by the windows. It is not far over to Concourse E.

Delta 777-200LR N701DN. I kicked the tires of this very aircraft on the factory floor in Everett a couple of years ago. Glad to see it's still in one piece. :-)

This is the FIS area (immigration control). It's located in the basement.

Lots of Global Entry kiosks. Suppose they anticipate that these will be used more frequently as the secure traveler program is expanded.

The walkway between F and E.

The Concourse F train station.

Six bag carouselles in the arrival area.

The way out - customs checkpoint.

This is a room you don't want to explore further. This is where Customs take individuals for a closer look at them or their baggage....

Baggage recheck. This is where you drop of your luggage if you have a connecting flight. Local passengers proceed directly to the arrivals hall with their luggage.

The group.  Thanks ATL Airport for setting this up!

And to finish off .. a couple of MD's.

Bye bye ...
